Water cooled power cables are used for supplying electrical current from transformer output, i.e., low voltage stationary bus tubes or bus bars to bus bars of the electrode holding arm of the furnace.

All the power required for melting operation, passes through the secondary circuit thus, limiting the losses in this circuit, by way of low reactance and be balanced as close as possible between the phases.

This balancing of phase eliminates the transposed resistance component, which reduces the hotspot problems in the electric arc furnace. Due to the presence of large fluctuations to which these cables are subjected, the permissible current density should be 4 to 5 A/mm².

Brief construction details:

terminals are machined from high conductivity electrolytic copper matching the busbar size and dimensions;

conductors are made from a number of stranded ropes made from high conductivity electrolytic copper; the central core is made of hard rubber;

the outer water hose is made of neoprene rubber with asbestos/fibreglass impregnated on it during vulcanisation process;

the outer bands are made of high tensile strength non magnetic stainless steel. SEEC offers these cables, which are critical component for furnace operation in the steel plants.

These are manufactured as per various industrial standards keeping in mind the client’s requirements. The cables are tested rigidly before delivery to customers.
